BVB for Boll with playoff potential
German table tennis idol Timo Boll believes Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund has a chance in the playoff race after jumping into the upper half of the table. “If they can play at full strength often now, Borussia can attack,” said the record European champion and Dortmund soccer brand ambassador in an interview on the Westphalia club's website about the prospects for last year's newcomer.
At the beginning of the week, Boll witnessed Dortmund's surprise 3-2 victory over the star-studded team of Champions League winners 1. FC Saarbrücken-TT, led by Chinese superstar Fan Zhendong. In Boll's opinion, BVB's third consecutive victory was particularly valuable because the hosts were able to score points even without their Danish top 20 ace Anders Lind: “If the team can maintain its recent level of performance and Lind joins them, it has the potential to be a playoff team and is already dangerous.”
After a successful start to the second half of the season, Dortmund is currently sixth in the table. With only four points separating them from fourth place, the final spot in the Final Four is within reach for coach Yevgeni Fadeev's team.
