Andras leads Bad Homburg into German Cup quarterfinals

TTC OE Clarity Telefonie-Systeme Bad Homburg has booked its ticket to the quarterfinals of the German Table Tennis Cup. In a 3–1 away victory over 1. FC Saarbrücken II, Csaba Andras emerged as the match-winner: the Hungarian held his nerve in both singles, clinching each in a deciding fifth game to secure Bad Homburg’s place in the next round.

The hosts, fielding only players with Bundesliga experience, struck first when Yuto Muramatsu swept Benno Oehme 3–0. But Bad Homburg hit back. Andras showcased his fighting spirit, overturning a 0–2 deficit against Eduard Ionescu to level the tie. Ivor Ban then added a 3–1 win over Dennis Klein to give the visitors the lead, before Andras sealed the deal with another five-set triumph—this time against Muramatsu.

Bad Homburg eyeing the Final Four

The quarterfinal berth keeps alive Bad Homburg’s hopes of reaching the prestigious Final Four, likely to be staged in January 2026. After a narrow Bundesliga loss in Bremen and a 0–3 defeat to Grünwettersbach, this result was an important boost. Saarbrücken II, meanwhile, must return to the table less than 15 hours later as they open their 2. Bundesliga campaign against 1. FC Köln.

Grenzau had already secured its place in the last eight on Wednesday, while SV Union Velbert joined them on Friday evening with victory in a second-division clash against 1. FSV Mainz 05. The remaining round-of-16 ties will be played next week.
