Düsseldorf leaves Dortmund with no chance
Under the watchful eye of Dyn expert Timo Boll, Borussia Düsseldorf celebrated its fifth victory of the season in the Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL). On Wednesday, the record champions secured a 3-0 win against Borussia Dortmund, further cementing their place at the top of the table.
Kristian Karlsson played for Borussia Düsseldorf for six years and celebrated four championships in the Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL) with the team. On Wednesday evening, Karlsson returned to Düsseldorf, but Borussia Dortmund stood no chance. The record champions won 3-0 against BVB on the 7th match day and thus remain at the top of the table: with 10-4 points, Düsseldorf are among the group chasing leaders SV Werder Bremen (12-2). Dortmund, on the other hand, hoped in vain for their third win of the season and have fallen back to tenth place in the table with 4-10 points.
“We had hoped that I would face Kanak in the first match. But they surprised us with their line-up,” said Karlsson, who was surprisingly selected to play in the second position for Dortmund despite the absence of Anders Lind and faced Dang Qiu in the first singles match. “It's a good start to our marathon week,” said Qiu after the victory. “We have many crucial tasks ahead of us, including the cup quarterfinal against Bad Homburg. In January, we definitely want to be in the Liebherr Cup Final Four.”
Dang Qiu in top form also in TTBL
Qiu had previously ensured a successful start to the match for Düsseldorf: The 29-year-old, who recently reached the final of the WTT Champions in Frankfurt, was also in top form in the TTBL and gave Karlsson no chance in his 3-1 victory. Anton Källberg then followed up with a 3-0 win over Cedric Nuytinck to give Düsseldorf a 2-0 lead at the break.
“It was a small show of strength. Anton and Dang are in great form at the moment,” said Timo Boll during the break at the Dyn microphone. The table tennis superstar, who ended his career in the summer, was on duty for the first time on Wednesday as an expert for TTBL media partner Dyn. Before the match, Boll had predicted a 3-0 victory for Düsseldorf – and he was right. Kanak Jha sealed the final score with a 3-1 win over Adam Szudi.
