Bremen Takes the Lead in the Table

Bremen Takes the Lead in the Table

SV Werder Bremen is on a roll. Their victory over Mühlhausen marks their fourth consecutive win this season. Last season, the Hanseatic team suffered two defeats against the Thuringians (2:3, 1:3).

Just like in their previous match against Saarbrücken, SV Werder Bremen secured victory against Mühlhausen in a fiercely contested duel, only prevailing in the final doubles. With a perfect record of 8:0, Bremen’s form contrasts sharply with bottom-of-the-table Mühlhausen.

Gerassimenko in Impressive Form

Bremen's number one player, the Kazakh Kirill Gerassimenko, once again played a crucial role in his team's success. He dominated both Irvin Bertrand and Ovidiu Ionescu without dropping a single set. Of the eight singles matches he has played this season, Gerassimenko has only lost to Germany's national player, Patrick Franziska.

Mühlhausen Fails to Convert Their Lead

After Gerassimenko's first victory, the Thuringian side turned the tide, with wins from Ionescu and Mengel giving them a temporary lead. The deciding final doubles, tied at 2:2, could have gone either way for Post SV. Bertrand and Mengel had excellent starts in all four sets (leading 5:1 in the first two sets and 4:1 in the third and fourth), but only managed to win the second set. In the fourth set, Bremen’s duo Falck/Aguirre had three match points, failing to convert any of them initially. At 10:9, Falck even committed a service error, but it went unpunished. The fourth match point finally clinched the victory for Bremen.

Comments on the Match:

Daniel Habesohn (Post SV Mühlhausen):
“We’re struggling a bit at the moment. We haven’t been able to get two players to the table who deliver top performances at the same time. Right now, we’re lacking a bit of confidence. However, we’ve had a season before where we started 0:8, and we still made the playoffs. We hope to perform better in the next two home matches.”

Kirill Gerassimenko (SV Werder Bremen):
“This season’s start has put us in a good position. But I’ve realized that always playing at number one is quite exhausting. That's why I was happy that Mattias [Falck] played at number one in the cup. Additionally, the many away games and international tournaments have added to the travel fatigue. We’re all a bit tired, but happy that we won today.”

The action in the TTBL continues rapidly. Today, last season’s runner-up, Saarbrücken, will visit ASV Grünwettersbach. Fulda, who knocked Düsseldorf out of the cup, will play Bergneustadt on Monday. Grenzau and Düsseldorf will close out the matchday on Wednesday, October 9th.
