TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau signs top English player Liam Pitchford
TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau is moving forward with its roster planning for the upcoming season in the Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL) and is pleased to announce the signing of English national team player Liam Pitchford. The 32-year-old Briton will join the Westerwald-based team starting in the 2026/27 season, joining the already confirmed roster featuring Feng Yi-Hsin, Maciej Kubik, Martin Allegro, and his compatriot Samuel Walker.
“With Liam Pitchford, we are gaining a player who enjoys international recognition and possesses a wealth of experience,” says Olaf Gstettner, chairman of TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau. “We are convinced that he is an excellent fit for our team in terms of athletic ability and can provide our squad with additional stability and quality.”
Pitchford himself sees his involvement in the Westerwald as an exciting new challenge. Following hip surgery and a lengthy rehabilitation period, his immediate priority is to make a full return to competitive sport. “At first, because of my surgery and the need to play more WTT tournaments to maintain my world ranking, I wasn’t sure if I would even compete in a league next season,” explains Pitchford. “But after Grenzau contacted me and we spoke, I realized that the club has a lot of confidence in me. I also spoke with my good friend Sam Walker and my coaches and saw this as a great opportunity to play in a strong league again—at a club with a clear vision, where I also have excellent training conditions.”
The Englishman is optimistic about his return to the table and wants to make an impact with Grenzau: “The most important thing right now is that I feel 100 percent fit at the table again. Of course, I want to help the club compete for a higher position in the Bundesliga standings. Thanks to the club’s trust and my own athletic goals, I want to help the team achieve a good finish in the league.”
