Saarbrücken Secures Victory in Doubles

Table tennis fans were in for a treat this Sunday. The match between Grünwettersbach and Saarbrücken also went the full distance. In the end, the favorites from Saarland triumphed in the doubles, winning in four sets.

Both ASC Grünwettersbach and 1. FC Saarbrücken-TT had entered the season with only one win from their first three matches. For the team from Karlsruhe, this defeat marked their third loss of the season.

Walther Closes the Gap

Saarbrücken, playing with their strongest lineup, quickly took a 2-0 lead. Both Patrick Franziska (3:1 over Tiago Apolonia) and Yuto Muramatsu (3:0 over Guilherme Teodoro) lived up to their roles as favorites, giving the Saarland team a solid start.
The third singles match featured Darko Jorgic (14:2) and Ricardo Walther (15:3), two players with the best individual records from last season’s regular round. As expected, the match went the full distance. In the end, Grünwettersbach's Walther had the upper hand (9:11, 11:6, 11:3, 5:11, 11:6).

Saarbrücken Goes the Distance for the Third Time

The match between the top players—Apolonia and Muramatsu—turned out to be a real test of patience. While Muramatsu comfortably won the first set, Apolonia gradually found his rhythm, giving Muramatsu less time to respond to his shots. At 10:6 for Apolonia in the fourth set, Muramatsu took a medical time-out due to an elbow injury sustained during a previous stroke. The Japanese player continued, even saving one match point, but was unable to turn the match around.

In the final doubles match—Saarbrücken's third doubles appearance in four games this season, following a win against Bad Homburg and a loss to Werder Bremen—the duo Franziska/Meissner defeated Teodoro/Walther 3:1.

Player's Comment:

Guilherme Teodoro (ASC Grünwettersbach):
"Saarbrücken has a very strong team. Playing against Yuto [Muramatsu] is tough. We didn’t play too badly in the doubles. I hope I can step up in the next (home) match. The atmosphere in our hall was, as always, fantastic."

Fulda, who knocked Düsseldorf out of the cup, will face Bergneustadt on Monday. Grenzau and Düsseldorf will close the matchday on Wednesday, October 9th.
