Bremen Advances to Cup Quarterfinals After Victory Over Mainz

Following an outstanding start to the new Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL) season, SV Werder Bremen sits at the top of the TTBL standings with 6:0 points and entered the Cup round of 16 as heavy favorites against the second-division team from Mainz.

Unlike the first three league matches, where Gerassimenko was placed in the top spot, it was Falck who led Bremen today. He comfortably won his first singles match against Ole Kaspers 0:3 (6:11, 5:11, 8:11).

John Oyebode Pushes Gerassimenko and Falck to the Limit
The evening’s excitement came courtesy of Mainz’s John Oyebode, who faced both of Bremen’s top players. In his first match, he went up against Gerassimenko, who has been in top form with a 5:1 record in the TTBL. Despite falling behind, Oyebode managed to take a 2:1 lead. However, Gerassimenko fought back, forcing a fifth set, which he narrowly won 9:11.

In his second singles match against Falck, Oyebode again put up a strong fight, pushing the match to a fifth set. But once more, the victor was Bremen.

Vilardell Defeats Aguirre
The match between Vilardell and Aguirre was more straightforward, with the Mainz player securing a clear 3:0 victory (11:7, 11:9, 11:6), earning the only point for 1. FSV Mainz 05 that evening.

At the end of the round of 16, SV Werder Bremen emerged victorious with a 3:1 win, advancing to the quarterfinals of the German Table Tennis Cup. The dream of the Cup Final Four remains alive on the Weser.
