1. FC Saarbrücken TT has extended the contract with Romanian top talent Eduard Ionescu by a further year.

The 19-year-old right-hander, who was originally planned for the 2nd team in the current season, has recommended himself for the TTBL team with his good performances in the league and internationally and will be increasingly used in the 1st team in the second half of the season.

"My time in Saarbrücken so far could hardly have gone any better - I was given a great reception by my teammates and was able to help the team.

In the coming season, I won't have any commitments at U19 level and would like to join the men's team for good!" says Ionescu.

Erwin Berg, sporting director of 1. FC Saarbrücken Table Tennis, is full of praise for Edy: "He has fulfilled all expectations so far! He is unbeaten in our 2nd team and is also putting in a great performance in the TTBL - we are delighted to have him in the team again".

Edy Ionescu was able to play his way into the top 100 players in the world this year and has a good chance of taking part in the Olympic Games in Paris.

He signs a contract with the Saar until June 2025!
