Bremen beats Grenzau and extends the lead

SV Werder Bremen remains on course for the playoffs in the Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL): At the end of the 15th match day on Sunday, the North Germans celebrated a confident 3-0 victory at TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau, drawing level with league leaders Borussia Düsseldorf once again.

SV Werder Bremen continues its winning streak in the Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL). Even TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau was unable to stop the Hanseatic team on Sunday afternoon. With a 3:0 victory, Werder secured its twelfth win of the season at the end of the 15th match day, taking another big step toward the playoffs. With 24:6 points, Bremen is now back on par with league leaders Borussia Düsseldorf and already has an eight-point lead over fifth-placed TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen (16:14).

“We'll see what happens. We still have some tough games ahead of us,” said Bremen's Mattias Falck on Sunday when asked about his team's playoff chances. Commenting on the match in Westerwald, he said: “Since I've been in Bremen, we've had a poor record against Grenzau. That makes me all the happier with today's victory.”

“Gave us momentum”: Bertrand beats Kubik 3-0

“We're not thinking about the table at all,” Bremen manager Sascha Greber had said before the match. And Werder certainly didn't seem pensive, but rather full of drive. Irvin Bertrand secured the break and a 1-0 lead with a 3-0 win over Maciej Kubik. “We got off to a really good start, which gave us momentum for the rest of the matches,” Falck said later. Kirill Gerassimenko followed with another 3-0 win over Patrick Baum, before Falck secured the clear victory with a 3-1 win over Samuel Walker.

Werder will be back in action on Wednesday, February 11, when TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen visits at 6:30 p.m. One day earlier, on Tuesday, February 10, TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau will face 1. FC Saarbrücken TT in an away match. This and all other matches of the 16th match day of the Table Tennis Bundesliga will be broadcast live on Dyn.
