Double gold for Duda/Qiu in Brazil
This victory marks the second joint tournament win for the national players on the WTT Tour.
National table tennis players Benedikt Duda (Bergneustadt) and Dang Qiu (Düsseldorf) won the doubles competition at the Star Contender tournament in Foz do Iguacu, Brazil. The six-time German champions in doubles, which will return to the Olympic program in Los Angeles in 2028 after a 24-year hiatus, won the final against the Indian combination Manush Shah/Manav Thakkar 3:2.
Duda, the European Championship runner-up, and Qiu, the former European champion, who had not lost a single set in their three matches on the way to the final, celebrated their second joint doubles victory in a WTT series tournament. The well-established duo had also won the title in the Star Contender category in Doha in 2022. Duda has also been successful in doubles this year with promising young player André Bertelsmeier (Bad Königshofen) at the Contender tournament in Tunis.
