Review of the 2026 European Championships in Ljubljana
Table tennis professional Dang Qiu missed out on the final at the European Championships in Ljubljana and had to settle for bronze. The 2022 European champion lost 2–4 to Sweden’s Anton Källberg, his teammate at Bundesliga club Borussia Düsseldorf, in the semifinals. Källberg went on to lose the final on Sunday evening, falling 3–4 to French world No. 2 and tournament favorite Félix Lebrun.
Qiu, 29, had defeated defending champion Alexis Lebrun in the previous round and entered the clash with his club teammate full of confidence. However, a 2–1 lead was not enough to secure another appearance in the final. Källberg proved stronger, particularly in the final two games.
The German team therefore returns home with five medals. Nina Mittelham and Benedikt Duda claimed gold in mixed doubles, while Annett Kaufmann won silver in the women’s singles. Bronze medals also went to Kaufmann and Mittelham in women’s doubles, as well as Mittelham in women’s singles.
