Bad Homburg celebrates second win of the season against Bergneustadt

Kristian Karlsson and Csaba Andras have led TTC OE Bad Homburg to their second win of the season: The promoted team in the German Table Tennis League (TTBL) won 3:1 against TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt on Thursday and thus improved to eighth place in the table.

Despite only one win from their first four games, TTC OE Bad Homburg had already sold themselves dearly in recent weeks. On Thursday, the team rewarded itself for the second time since its promotion: With a 3:1 win against TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt, one of the surprise teams of the season so far was defeated. With 4:6 points, the team from Hesse moved up one place to eighth in the table tennis Bundesliga (TTBL).

“It was a very competitive game right from the start,” said Bergneustadt's Benedikt Duda after the match. It was the second defeat in a row for the visitors after the 2:3 against TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell; the team from the Oberbergisch region is now sixth in the table with 6:4 points. “In the end, Bad Homburg was the better team today and deserved to win,” said Duda.

Csaba Andras defeats Benedikt Duda 3:2

The 30-year-old had previously suffered a narrow defeat in the key match. Playing in third position against Csaba Andras, Duda lost 2:3 (13:11, 6:11, 10:12, 11:5, 5:11) to give Bad Homburg a 2:1 lead. “I knew that he was playing very well at the moment and was prepared for a lot. He played strongly and with a lot of confidence,” said Duda about Andras' performance. Kristian Karlsson then made everything clear for Bad Homburg in the top singles match. After trailing 3:8 in the first set, he fought his way back to win 13:11 and triumphed 3:0 (13:11, 11:7, 15:13) shortly afterwards. Karlsson had already won the opening singles match 3:2 (11:9, 6:11, 9:11, 11:9, 11:4) against Adrien Rassenfosse. Jha scored for Bergneustadt with a 3:1 (7:11, 11:9, 11:8, 11:5) against Benno Oehme.
